Identify triggers and build a better treatment plan
Allergies can show up in many different ways. Some children have sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, sore throat, or frequent congestion. Others may have cough, wheezing, breathing symptoms, headaches, skin issues, or chronic symptoms that seem to come and go with seasons, pets, dust, or food.
When allergy symptoms keep interfering with sleep, school, sports, or daily comfort, it may be time to look more closely at what is triggering them.
Allergy testing may be helpful if your child has ongoing seasonal symptoms, frequent congestion, asthma flare-ups, chronic itchy eyes, suspected pet or environmental allergies, or symptoms that do not improve with basic treatment.
Allergy skin testing is a quick in-office test that helps identify the allergens most likely to be causing symptoms. The testing area is marked, a small amount of each allergen is introduced through the top layer of skin, and the reactions are checked after a short wait.
The reactions are usually similar to small mosquito bites and typically fade after a few hours. A topical steroid cream may be used after testing to help reduce itching and swelling.
Allergy skin testing may help identify environmental triggers such as pollens, pets, molds, and dust-related allergens. The current Dyson Pediatrics allergy page also notes that certain food allergens may be included in testing, while some concerns, such as nut allergy, may require blood testing instead.
If your child has symptoms that suggest food allergy, seasonal allergy, or both, our office can help you understand the next step.
These may include desert pollens, weeds, grasses, trees, molds, pet dander, and other common inhaled triggers.
Food allergies can show up in different ways. If your child has symptoms that seem connected to certain foods, we can help guide appropriate evaluation.
Once the likely triggers are identified, Dyson Pediatrics can help families talk through treatment options. That may include reducing exposures, adjusting medications, or discussing other options if symptoms are not improving.
The goal is not just to name the allergen. The goal is to help your child feel better and function better every day.
Dyson Pediatrics helps Tucson families with allergy symptoms, testing options, and treatment guidance for children and teens.
